<strong>The Abstract Series</strong> has completed the third issue in a series of private amateur cosmos cartographer outlines, diagrams, and sketches. What is hinted at in these pages is a vague decoding of the outer limits, a daily struggle with the unknown, a mind lost in the surrealist activities of alien terrain. Warning to the viewer: do not use these cosmos atlases as actual maps &#8211; you will get lost. Our cartographer, though familiar and comfortable with her otherworldly surroundings, is acquainting with and reporting from a universe (multiverse?) of different dimensions. No longitude/latitude in other words. Forget lightyears, gravity, certainly units of measurement, even cellular makeup. Our cosmos cartographer is preparing us for a deeper dive, the progression in her series has been strange and luminous, although symbiotically murky. <div>The second round of collected data from the amateur cartographer of the cosmos. This issue, unlike the first, features opposites, then the parallel conjectures, outlined by the minute fragments between darkened points in space, which are also the contents of the unconscious. The process of succumbing to such alien, confusing terrain led to these, the contents of the collection, portraits of the unfathomable spectres of some mysterious and haunted otherworld (which are portraits of the inner world, thus an interexistence between space and the mind). What emerges is a slow processional toward a union between both the random and the pure emotion and gut of whatever space/mind matter, which creates a map toward the meaning which is the looming undercurrent found in anything. Collection of ten drawings. Individually stitched covers, stitched binding. 8.5&#8243;x11&#8243;, black and white. Numbered and signed edition of 20. <div>The second round of collected data from the amateur cartographer of the cosmos. This issue, unlike the first, features opposites, then the parallel conjectures, outlined by the minute fragments between darkened points in space, which are also the contents of the unconscious. The process of succumbing to such alien, confusing terrain led to these, the contents of the collection, portraits of the unfathomable spectres of some mysterious and haunted otherworld (which are portraits of the inner world, thus an interexistence between space and the mind). What emerges is a slow processional toward a union between both the random and the pure emotion and gut of whatever space/mind matter, which creates a map toward the meaning which is the looming undercurrent found in anything. <p><em>An Episode in the Life of a Landscape Painter</em> by César Aira &#8211; Aira is a ridiculously prolific writer from Argentina.  This is one of the few novels in which he doesn&#8217;t clone Carlos Fuentes, if that gives you some idea of what you&#8217;re getting into.</p>
<div><em>A Heaven of Others</em> by Joshua Cohen &#8211; A Jewish boy in Israel is blown up by a suicide bomber and finds himself in Muslim heaven.  Yes.&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>Motorman </em>by David Ohle &#8211; This is a gross little book.  I was more attached to Moldenke than any character I&#8217;ve read.</p>
<p><em>Richard Yates</em> by Tao Lin &#8211; Cheesebeast.</p>

<div><em>Osama Van Halen</em> by Michael Muhammad Knight &#8211; This is the sequel to Knight&#8217;s classic &#8216;The Taqwacores&#8217;.  Muslim punks vs. the world.&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>The Unseen</em> by Nanni Balestrini &#8211; Written entirely without punctuation, and it works.</p>
<p><em>No Aloha</em> by Deran Ludd &#8211; A group of teenage Sumo wrestling fans navigate Colorado after the end of the theocracy and beginning of the civil war.  Most of the midwest is a giant hogfarm.</p>
<p><em>Bad Marie</em> by Marcy Dermansky &#8211; Jealousy, sex, crime, international travel, drunken baths with children.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Daniel&#8217;s piece &#8220;Index of First Lines&#8221; appeared in the first Monolith. I&#8217;m a big fan of Daniel Levin Becker. Corresponding with him has been, literally, one of my recent great pleasures. He has a smooth, translucent humor that could for some be imperceptible, but once &#8220;in the know&#8221; regarding his interests and biography, one can trace his influences quite visibly to the Oulipo (who are playful literary and mathematical experimentalists, at least that&#8217;s how I&#8217;ve felt ever since reading <em>A Void</em> by Perec and <em>Zazie</em> by Queneau &#8211; Becker has had direct experience with a handful from this literary gang during his studies in France). Beyond Daniel&#8217;s ability to make me laugh at his casual e-letter quips, his writing is conversationally ambrosial. Simply put, I feel decadent reading his work, or like I&#8217;m eating a rich meal (in a French way, not in an American way).</p>
